Inspect exterior brick facing for any signs of spalling (crumbling) of brick and any holes or chaulking in mortar joints, those are tell tale signs of water infiltration. You want to have a mason replace any spalling brick and then apply new mortar to any areas in the mortar lines that are deteriorated. A concrete sealer is always recommended to be applied to any mortar joints to avoid saturation by rainwater.
